H.E. the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the UK
Mr. Sungnam Lim was appointed as Ambassador to the Court of St. James’s in June 2013 by President Park Geun-Hye of the Republic of Korea. He is a career diplomat with a wide range of experiences spanning over three decades and most recently served as Seoul‟s point man for the North Korean nuclear issue in the capacity of Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prior to holding this position, Mr. Lim served at the Korean Embassy in Beijing as DCM and Political Minister. In the late 1990s, he also served in Taipei. On the other side of the Pacific, Mr. Lim has held two posts at the Korean Embassy in Washington. In addition, during Korea‟s 1996-97 term as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, he served at the Korean Mission to the United Nations. In the Foreign Ministry headquarters in Seoul, Ambassador Lim has held various positions dealing with a wide area of issues related with the United States, China, Japan and North Korea. Furthermore, he was seconded to the Office of the President twice. Ambassador Lim received his B.A. and M.A. from the Department of International Relations, Seoul National University, and M.A. from the Department of Government, GSAS, Harvard University. In 2008-09, he was a visiting research scholar at the University of Tokyo. In his leisure time, Ambassador Lim enjoys visiting museums and opera.
